Activities > Set Up the Observatory

The Observatory is a long-term service provided through the Internet in order to inform policy and practice, address training organisations, social partners and policy makers. The Observatory conducts surveys, publishes research reports, sets up and continuously updates databases of best practice, issues quarterly newsletters with summaries of the research progress and interim results and publishes comparative statistics. Also, the Observatory is building a library of relevant publications and plans to host virtual workshops and discussion fora on the subject of lifelong learning in rural areas.

In general, the Observatory is concerned with those 'stakeholders' that are directly involved in the economy of rural areas. Also, it aims to build systematic documentation on the use of IT-supported learning, including blended learning, by employees of SMEs and micro-enterprises in rural Europe, in the context of lifelong learning, leading to formal qualifications or even to non-validated skills acquisition or personal development.
